Hendo Eyes 205lb Title
Dan “Hendo” Henderson has revealed that the middleweight championship isn’t a priority for him right now.
UFC President Dana White told the media that Hendo’s only interest is gold. “He’ll fight whoever has that belt. Dan doesn’t seem too picky - I think he would fight Chael Sonnen (if he defeats Anderson Silva for the middleweight title).”
Hendo is currently awaiting the winner of Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans - who will fight for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 145 on April 21st. This means Hendo is without a fight for quite some time, which could lead to some ‘ring rust’ for the UFC veteran.
So, it looks like Hendo is set for the 205lb title shot regardless of what Dana White has said. Hendo insists he has no desire to fight at middleweight. “The only guy I’d cut weight for is Anderson Silva.” he revealed.
Not forgetting that Hendo and Sonnen are friends and training partners, another reason why Hendo is probably not keen on fighting at middleweight considering Sonnen is one of the top fighters in the division.
Whether it’s Jones or Evans - they have their work cut out for them. Hendo’s last fight (or should I say ‘war’) with Shogun was one of the greatest bouts in the Octagon. Henderson will need to be aggressive like Machida was (before he was choked out) against Jones because as we all saw - Jones does not like to get punched.
Hendo and Evans are both wrestlers and strikers. It could be such an even fight it ends up being dull and dormant - or it could be a stand-up slugfest and a grappling master class.
