All that three NFL teams want is a ticket - one that entitles them entry to the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
Luck, a college senior quarterback at Stanford University, has been billed as the second coming ....oops sorry that is Tim Tebow.
Luck is evaluated by scouts and professionals as perhaps the most NFL ready quarterback for a generation and this means he will likely be the #1 NFL draft pick in 2012.
It's highly likely that when NFL commish Roger Goodell steps up to the podium to announce the first pick Luck will be on his lips so to speak.
So who has a golden ticket with just two weeks of NFL action remaining? It's incredibly down to three teams, after the Indianapolis Colts scored a major upset win against the Houson Texans on Thursday Night, to take their hot streak to two games.
Our three contenders are the Colts, the Minnesota Vikings and the St Louis Rams. Here is the the likelihood of Luck getting selected by one of these three rather bad franchises.
The Colts - Despite two wins in the last two weeks Dan Olovsky is NOT the future of the Indianapolis Colts, problem is. like chewing gum on a flip-flop its gonna be hard to get Peyton Manning to unglue himself from the conscience of the Colts coaches and Colts fans. In all likelihood this will be where Luck ends up but the Colts have the ability to beat the Jags in Week 17 and finish on a mildly warm 3-game win streak.
The Vikings - The Vikes looked strong against the Redskins in Week 16 with option QB Joe Webb and Heisman runner up Toby Gerhart subbing for Adrian Peterson (now out with an ACL). Thing is Joe Webb is NOT the future QB of the Purple People Eaters. That job belongs to Christian Ponder a rookie. Ponder has shown signs of life but he has not had the chance to shine as his group of Wrs are one of the worst in the league.
The Rams - The Rams picked Sam Bradford as #1 overall in the 2010 Draft - and he went out and threw for over 3000 yards as a rookie. Problem is he has regressed in 2010 behind coach Josh McDaniels and combined with injuries he has St Louis fans reaching for the boo megaphones faster than a coach load of girl scouts at Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime. The Rams are without doubt the worst team in the NFL - and they face a 49ers team in Week 17 that will simply make them look like a turkey after boxing day.
Cleveland, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay all sit an ugly 4-11 and all have an outside shot at Luck, but it will take a lot of twists and turns for them to get him.
The likely scenario is Rams finish with #1 pick and they go and grab an offensive tackle or a stude WR to help Bradford, leaving the Colts at #2 to get Luck. Life gets interesting if the Rams dangle this pick as there are going to be some teams who will pay a huge price for their 'franchise' quarterback, namely the Redskins, Seahawks and Browns for a start.
Anyway time for me to wish you all a Merry Christmas. My baby daughter (my best present ever) is asleep and I'm watching Rocky (the original film) before I go to bed.
Yo Adrienne - get me a ticket to the Luck sweepstakes.
